When it was time for our daughter to begin Kindergarten we wanted her to be in a small class size so we decided to enroll her in a private school. She enjoyed it but it just didn't work for our family. We enrolled her in public school for her first grade year and she did well until she got sick in the spring. She had the flu which progressed into Pneumonia and she was hospitalized. Following up with her Pediatrician she was unable to attend school for awhile because her immune system was very weak. We would pick up her school work and bring it home to complete when she felt up for the task. At the end of the school year my husband and I went back and forth on the best decision for her and homeschool was at the top of the list. We enjoyed helping her with all of her school work while she was sick. After a lot of research and conversations with other homeschool families we chose a curriculum and went for it. We have homeschooled for one full year and I love it. My daughter enjoys it and this year we are adding in our 3 year old. She looks up to her older sister so she wants to do whatever her sister is doing. Not everyone agrees with homeschooling which is fine. We were told by many non-believers about all the social skills my daughter would lack but truth be told she is more sociable than kids that attend public school and is also a lot nicer, but that is for a later post. We love our decision to homeschool and going back to public or private school has yet to cross our minds. As a disclaimer, I am not saying there is one better than the other, it is all about what is best for your child and family.
